Yorkshire Water has installed an EWT wind turbine at its Old Whittington waste water treatment works in Chesterfield.
The utility said construction of the £1.6m turbine supplied by Dutch fabricator EWT took two days.
Wakefield civil engineer Peter Duffy acted as principal contractor and designer for the deployment of the 77-metre tip height turbine on behalf of Yorkshire Water’s sister company Kelda Energy.
Yorkshire Water said power generation will begin by the end of the month after the turbine has been commissioned and tested.
The turbine will generate the equivalent of approximately 20-45% of the site’s annual electricity needs.
Yorkshire Water’s annual electricity bill stands at £50m, it added.
