Canadian energy company Enmax Generation Portfolio proposes to submit a 200MW wind farm to Alberta’s upcoming renewable electricity program.
Enmax plans to install 50 to 70 turbines at the Zephyr scheme, located on agricultural land with oil and gas development in the southern part of the province.
The Alberta Utilities Commission is reviewing a phase one application with preliminary details on proposed turbine layouts.
In a phase two submission, Enmax will complete final turbine selection and detailed engineering.
Environmental studies, including migratory birds and bats as well as noise, are under way.
Alberta expects to issue a 400MW call for renewable energy in the coming weeks, the first competition in a drive to add 5GW by 2030.
Winners are likely to be selected in late 2017.
If the project is awarded an offtake agreement, Enmax proposes to start construction in 2018 and bring Zephyr online in December 2019.
