Acciona Energía has announced today the signing of an agreement with utilities owned the Government of Aruba to develop a green hydrogen valley on the Caribbean island.
Acciona Energía will work with state-owned energy companies to develop, build and operate a green hydrogen plant powered by a renewable self-consumption project.
The electricity generated will be used for the production of green hydrogen and the surplus will be injected into the local grid for use on the island and thus reduce the consumption of imported fossil fuels.
The project will use land currently owned by state-owned refining company Refineria di Aruba, water will be supplied by WEB Aruba, while ELMAR will manage the distribution and transmission of power through the grid.
Acciona Energía will support state-owned energy companies with the deployment of the necessary infrastructure to build a renewable hydrogen ecosystem on the island and explore various complementary uses of this fuel, including export opportunities.
Thanks to this transformative project, the Government of Aruba and the state energy companies will reinforce their commitment to energy independence.
The country aims to move away from traditional energy sources and has set itself the ambitious goal of establishing renewables as a primary source by 2050.
