Asso.subsea has started construction of its new DP-2 cable laying vessel Althea.

The company said a steel-cutting ceremony took place at China Merchants Heavy Industry’s shipyard in Shenzhen, marking what it described as a major milestone in its fleet expansion.
Asso.subsea said Althea will be purpose-built for offshore wind as a versatile next-generation vessel capable of executing complex subsea cable installation projects in deep and shallow waters.
The company said the vessel reflects its commitment to innovation, sustainability and reliable offshore project delivery.
Asso.subsea thanked China Merchants Heavy Industry and its team for their work in reaching the milestone and said the build journey has officially begun.
