The German government is to establish secretariat to advance international cooperation on the development of power-to-x.
Federal environment minister Svenja Schulze told the COP25 meeting in Madrid the operation will be based in Berlin and will be a platform for a global network.
She told delegates that it is “crucial” that green hydrogen is produced from wind and solar.
The aim of the initiative of the Environment Ministry, she added, is to improve the global exchange of knowledge, to better determine the climate protection potential of these products and to jointly develop the sustainability criteria for their use.
“We need a global strategy for the production of synthetic fuels, fuels and raw materials from green electricity, which can make a significant contribution to climate protection and the development of a climate-neutral economy, both nationally and internationally,” Schulze said.
“We need to protect our environment and climate-friendly operations globally, we must not repeat the mistakes that biofuels have made, we need to work together around the world, so we want to build a platform and build an international network. The power-to-x Secretariat is the starting point. “
The Ministry commissioned experts to bundle international power-to-x activities under one roof and expand the work.
Officials will put together a “concrete work assignment” is to contribute to the clarification of key issues relating to energy efficiency and resources, potentials and feasibility, timeframes for the production of marketable products, the development of local value chains and financing concepts,” added the ministry.
