Royal Boskalis Westminster will report a non-cash impairment charge of €840m in its 2016 annual results.
The company said the charge is almost entirely related to the services part of its offshore oil and gas activities.
“In some of our service-related offshore energy market segments there is a structural imbalance between supply and demand, particularly in the heavy marine transport segment,” the company said.
It added that a large part of the impairment relates to its Dockwise activities, which were acquired in 2013.
Boskalis said its overall financial position “continues to be strong, even after this impairment”.
The company will publish its annual results for 2016 on 8 March.
