New York has received over 200 large-scale renewable energy proposals totalling 13GW in response to two requests for proposals to help meet Governor Andrew Cuomo’s goal of meeting 50% of the state’s electricity demands from clean power sources by 2030.
The state expects to invest up to $1.5bn in new clean energy projects through the two RFPs, administered by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) and the New York Power Authority (NYPA).
NYSERDA received 88 proposals from 30 developers totalling 4GW, while NYPA received more than 130 proposals from 51 companies totalling 9GW.
The projects include solar, wind, hydroelectric and biomass.
NYSERDA’s final bid proposals are due by 28 September, with competitive selection and awards expected in November.
NYPA expects to complete contracts with winning developers in the first half of 2018.
