Mexican cement company Grupo Cementos de Chihuahua (GCC) has signed a long-term power purchase agreement with an unnamed company for the supply of renewable electricity for its Odessa plant in Texas.
The 10-year fixed-price deal will mean wind and solar power will cover 100% of the plant’s electricity needs, GCC said.

The company added that the PPA, which will start in July 2022, represents about a 22% decrease in the current electricity price for the plant amounting to total savings of approximately $4.6m.
GGC said: “Today’s announcement is further reflection of GCC´s unwavering commitment to the use of clean energy at both its Mexico and US operations; reducing overall energy costs while successfully mitigating related price fluctuation.”
