Danish company PolyTech has launched a new technology aimed at protecting wind turbine blades from rain and airborne particle erosion.
The technology, known as Leading Edge Protection (LEP), has been tested on offshore wind turbines in the North Sea for more than a year with “promising results”, PolyTech said.
The company added that LEP products are currently deployed on some 300 operating turbines in Denmark and around the world.
PolyTech chief executive Mads Kirkegaard said: “The need to protect wind turbine blades against rain and other impact effects has been known in the industry for decades.
“With our LEP technology we’ve developed polymers with special qualities that can withstand the aggressive environment that wind turbines placed off shore and most on shore environments are exposed to.”
