Queequeg Renewables has been granted planning consent for a 100MW battery energy storage system in the UK.
The London-based company will build the BESS project at Hazel Grove near Poynton, Cheshire.
A Queequeg Renewables spokesperson said: “This strategic asset will play a critical role in supporting grid stability, enhancing renewable energy integration, and providing flexible power services capable of serving up to 500,000 homes once operational.
“We extend our sincere thanks to Pegasus Group for their huge support throughout the planning process of this scheme.
“As momentum builds for UK energy independence, strategic projects are critical components of the roadmap towards achieving our 2030 commitments, ensuring reliable energy supplies nationwide.”
The proposal was approved by Cheshire East Council’s planning committee.
A planning report noted that the benefits from the scheme would outweigh the harms. It highlighted that the visual impact from the project would be minimised by planting and there would be significant biodiversity improvements.
Last August, Queequeg received the green light from Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council for its 40MW Clapgate BESS project.
