Anesco has acquired four battery storage projects backed by capacity market contracts from London developer Green Hedge.
Located in the East Midlands and West Sussex, the 10MW projects were among the first energy storage schemes to be allocated 15-year contracts in December’s capacity market auction.
The battery storage sites will feature Green Hedge’s ‘energy barns’ – a steel-framed building housing inside the building consists of racks of lithium-ion batteries, inverters and transformers.
The combined total of 40MW of storage will be constructed in the coming months and then remain in operation for the next 25 years.
Anesco director of sales Lee Adams said: “The potential – and indeed need – for energy storage to support the grid is now starting to be fully recognised and we are seeing a huge growth of interest in this area.”
Anesco has over 100MW of batteries ordered for delivery during 2017, he added.
Green Hedge Energy UK commercial director, Tim Marsters, said: “Having successfully taken our first four energy barns through planning, contracting, grid connections and capacity market pre-qualification, we are delighted that Anesco has decided to become our development partner to realise them.”
