Aukera Energy has launched an online public consultation on plans to develop a 250MW battery in the north of England.
East York Energy Hub is a 249.9MW battery energy storage scheme (BESS) located in east York.
The online consultation is open until Friday 1 November 2024.
The proposed hub will store energy which is then released to the grid when needed the power is needed the most.
The East York Energy Hub project represents a multi-million-pound investment in local energy infrastructure, enhancing York’s capacity to support a growing demand for clean energy.
The BESS will help stabilise the local grid ensuring a more reliable energy supply and it supports the City of York’s commitment to achieving net zero carbon emissions, facilitating the integration of renewable energy sources and reducing its overall carbon footprint.
East York Energy Hub will seek to work with local businesses and suppliers to deliver the scheme supporting economic growth whilst also supporting the local community in the long term
The project has been designed to integrate with its surrounding environment, with the storage systems carefully located next to the main road (A64) to minimise the visual impact.
Land closest to Murton Way has been safeguarded for delivering various biodiversity measures including wildflower planting, new hedgerows, tree planting and a new drainage pond creating new wetland habitats.
Aukera Energy development manager Aaron Jackson said: “We are excited to bring this innovative project to East York and are committed to working closely with the community throughout the consultation process.
“This scheme not only supports our journey to net zero but also brings significant economic and environmental benefits to the York region.”
Aukera is inviting all residents, business owners, and stakeholders to participate in the public consultation process.
It is an opportunity to learn more about the project, provide feedback, and engage in discussions about the future of energy across York.
Feedback is vital to help inform a planning application that will be submitted to City of York Council in due course.
