Axpo will deliver one of the largest battery storage facilities in Sweden, having acquired the 25MW project from Sustainable Energy Solutions Sweden (SENS).
The facility in Filipstad is designed to provide ancillary services to help balance the electricity grid.
Construction is expected to start in early 2024.
At the same location, Axpo will also continue to develop a ground-mounted solar plant with a capacity of up to 20MW, also initiated by Sustainable Energy Solutions Sweden.
Axpo and SENS will co-develop the two projects.
The parties have agreed not to disclose commercial terms of the transaction.
Axpo group head of batteries & hybrid systems Frank Amend, said: “We are acquiring two important projects from SENS, which we will co-develop with them.
“Battery storage systems and solar energy are becoming increasingly important in the power mix of the future, and we look forward to further cooperation with our colleagues from SENS.”
SENS chief executive Henrik Boman said: “We are thrilled to partner with Axpo, a leading international utility that truly is at the forefront of driving the energy transition across Europe.
“This project will be one of Sweden’s largest solar and battery parks, so we are very proud to be collaborating with such a well-respected and experienced partner.
“We will work closely together to ensure the project’s success and see great potential for future partnerships with Axpo.”
