Eon Climate & Renewables North America and Tucson Electric Power have teamed up on a 10MW battery storage project linked to a 2MW solar facility in Arizona.
The Iron Horse battery energy storage project, which will be located adjacent to the University of Arizona Science and Technology Park southeast of Tucson, is expected to be completed in the first half of 2017.
Eon, in partnership with Greensmith Energy, will design and integrate a customized energy storage solution for Tucson Electric Power to provide frequency response and voltage control.
The system will aim to be “capable of providing the benefits of a conventional generation systems availability and response capabilities”, the companies said.
Eon has worked with Tuscon Electric Power on a number of projects including the provision of electricity from its 6.6MW Tech Park Solar and 13.2MW Valencia solar facilities and the turnkey construction of a 17.2MW solar facility at the Fort Huachuca army base near Sierra Vista in Arizona.
