Energy storage player esVolta has teamed up with US energy supplier Southern Company to deliver over 80MW of battery storage capacity in the US state of California.
The partnership between Southern Company subsidiary Southern Power and esVolta includes up to four utility-scale energy storage projects located in the state totalling more than 86MW/345 megawatt hours.
An investment in one project has closed already and three others are subject to completion.
Southern Power president Bill Grantham said: “Battery storage is an emerging technology with the potential to revolutionise how energy is supplied.
“These projects and our partnership with esVolta are a great strategic fit for our business, and these transactions will further position Southern Power to meet our customers’ needs as the energy industry continues to evolve.”
Javelin Capital advised esVolta on the transaction.
