FRV is developing more than 1GW/5GWh of battery energy storage systems in Spain, with projects expected to reach ready-to-build status between 2026 and 2027.
The company said the advanced-stage portfolio spans Extremadura, Andalusia, Catalonia and Cantabria, combining hybrid solar-plus-storage projects and standalone BESS.
It added that Extremadura forms the core of the expansion, including the San Serván 220 complex (56MW/225MWh) and Solanilla (18MW/72MWh), which are set to be ready to build in the first quarter of 2026 following approval of Royal Decree 997/2025.
FRV stated that the Carmonita cluster and the planned hybridisation at San Serván 400 will together represent 652MW/3492MWh of hybrid capacity in the region.
In Andalusia, the company plans to hybridise its Alcores projects in Seville with 57MW/285MWh of storage.
It noted that in Catalonia it is planning 334MW/1336MWh across six battery storage facilities in Barcelona, Girona and Tarragona, while in Cantabria the 50MW/200MWh Santander BESS Camarreal project in Camargo is scheduled to start construction in the second quarter of 2026.
