GE Renewable Energy will supply and integrate an energy storage system as part of the 200MW hybrid Solar River Project Stage 1 clean energy plant project in South Australia.
The 100MW battery will be coupled to the photovoltaic array to deliver 300 megawatt hours of storage capacity.
Construction of the project will start in the last quarter of this year with Stage 1 completing in early 2021.
The Salt River Power Project Stage 1 plant will be located in South Australia’s Mid North, halfway between Burra and Morgan.
Solar River Project chief executive Jason May said: “The award of the battery to GE is another major milestone for the project.
“GE brings a cutting-edge technology to South Australia, by delivering huge energy transfer capacity with an intelligent operating system.”
The Solar River Project, one of the world’s largest grid-scale hybrid renewable projects, will be transfer up to 400MWh of electricity a day.
The South Australia Electricity Grid has one of the peakiest loads in the world, according to GE, and the battery energy storage system can allow the plant to deliver firm generation and assist in smoothing peaks, contributing to a more stable network.
