GE and a Californian utility have unveiled what they claim is a first-of-its-kind battery storage system that will provide instant natural gas power to back up renewable energy supplies.
The first of two hybrid electric gas turbine systems was delivered for utility Southern California Edison around two months after the announcement of initial deployment plans, the companies said.
“As the electrical grid network continues to evolve, with more intermittent renewables being added every day, products like the Hybrid EGT can help smooth out the delivery of electricity,” GE Energy Connections grid solutions chief Reinaldo Garcia said.
The kit integrates a 10MW and 4.3MWh battery and energy storage system that can provide power immediately to the grid as needed.
