Iberdrola and Ingeteam will hybridise solar farms in Burgos, Huelva and Extremadura with 100MW/200MW of battery storage.
Ingeteam will supply medium-voltage power electronics, control systems and SCADA monitoring to integrate the batteries with Iberdrola’s existing Revilla Vallejera, Andévalo and Almaraz I&II PV plants.
Each project will consist of five medium-voltage stations, managing 25MW/50MW of capacity. The hybrid systems are scheduled to begin operation in the final quarter of 2025.
The installations received more than €26m in funding from Spain’s Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving after being recognised as Strategic Projects for Economic Recovery and Transformation.
Iberdrola and Ingeteam have already collaborated on several hybridisation and storage projects in Spain, including the country’s first battery at an operational wind farm and pilot schemes at Puertollano and Campo Aranuelo 3.
In the hydro sector, the partners worked together on the Santiago-Sil-Xares and Valdecanas pumped storage plants, the latter described as one of the largest batteries in Spain.
They also delivered the country’s first wind-linked storage battery at the 6MW Oiz wind farm in Bizkaia, which has a capacity of 3.5MWh.
Ingeteam said its hybrid power plant controller technology will optimise the performance of Iberdrola’s solar-storage sites.
The company added that the partnership reflects “a shared commitment to innovation and sustainability”, with solutions developed in the Basque Country for use in Spain and international markets.
