Leeward Renewable Energy and Southern California Edison (SCE) have entered into a 15-year PPA for Leeward’s 126MW Antelope Valley battery in California.
Construction of the facility is expected to begin in mid-2023, and the project is expected to be operational in early 2024.
Once complete, the facility will be Leeward’s first standalone battery energy storage system (BESS).
The site will be capable of storing over 500MWh of clean power that can be dispatched during peak load times to meet demand.
Antelope Valley is located adjacent to Leeward’s 100MW solar and storage Rabbitbrush project and 174MW solar and storage Chapparal Springs development.
The battery is expected to create approximately 70 union jobs during peak construction and generate significant property tax and economic benefits for Kern County.
