NEC Energy Solutions has commissioned of a 2MW/2 megawatt hour grid-connected battery for Engie in Chile.
The system, in Arica in northern Chile, will be connected to an existing substation and will provide spinning reserve.
It also has capacity to provide other ancillary services to help with the integration of solar and wind.
The Arica battery is the first energy storage installation operated by the Engie in the region.
NEC Energy Solutions will also service and maintain the lithium ion battery storage system.
Including the Arica facility, NEC Energy Solutions has installed 32MW of grid energy storage in Chile since 2009.
NEC Energy Solutions chief executive Steve Fludder said: “It’s rewarding to work with a new customer like Engie Energia Chile and deliver a solution that provides immediate impact.
