NGK Insulators has received an order for sodium-sulphur (NAS) batteries from Toho Gas for its site in Tsu in Mie Prefecture, in Japan.
The NAS batteries that Toho Gas ordered have an output of 11.4MW and a capacity of 69.6 megawatt-hours.

They will be installed at the former site of Toho Gas’s Tsu LNG station, with construction set to begin this month.
The batteries will be directly connected to an electrical power grid and are intended to stabilise the supply and demand of electrical power by storing electrical power when there is an excess supply and discharging it during shortages.
