Penso Power has secured planning approval for a 100MW battery storage development at Bramley in Hampshire, south-east England.
The developer secured full planning permission after the Planning Inspectorate allowed an appeal and awarded approval for the site next to to Bramley substation.
The appeal to the Planning Inspectorate was made by Penso Power after Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council’s refusal in October 2021.
The project will connect to Scottish & Southern Energy Network’s (SSEN) distribution network and the approved design allows for deployment of more than 250 megawatt-hour of battery storage.
Bramley is part of a pipeline of large-scale battery storage projects in the UK that BW Energy Storage Systems (BW ESS) committed to fund under an agreement with Penso Power in October 2021.
Penso Power and BW ESS will become joint shareholders in the Bramley development, with Penso Power overseeing the project’s deployment and managing it once it is operational.

“We are targeting 2024 for Bramley to enter commercial operation.”
