Enertrag has acquired a site in Germany for the development of a 130MW green hydrogen plant.
The plant in Prenzlau is part of the European Hy2Infra funding programme and is expected to produce up to 12,500 tonnes of green hydrogen annually from 100% renewable electricity.
The green hydrogen will be fed into the FLOW pipeline, part of the German hydrogen core network, and will be available to industrial customers from the steel, cement, glass and fertiliser industries, among others.
The new production site will be integrated into an existing industrial hall. The planned investment sum is around €300m euros.
Up to 25 new jobs are to be created in Prenzlau for the project, and the municipality also expects trade tax revenues in the millions.
Mayor Hendrik Sommer said: “Prenzlau combines progress and development with renewable energies. The fact that Entertrag is developing the local location is a positive sign for our city.
“The focus on innovative projects generates attention for Prenzlau. At the same time, this further development will allow Enertrag to grow, from which numerous social projects in the city and the region will certainly benefit in the future thanks to active corporate commitment.”
Matthias König from Enertrag said: “By securing the site in Prenzlau, we are creating the conditions for industrial, green hydrogen production directly at the source of renewable energy.
“The project shows how municipal co-operation and industrial innovation can work together to actively shape change – ecologically, economically and socially.”
