The Supply Chain innovation for Offshore Renewable Energy (Score) scheme has awarded Epic International a share of £6m to help the oil and gas company diversify into renewable energy.
The £12,000 grant will help Epic gain accreditation with the Industrial Rope Access Trade Association to run rope access training courses for wind turbine technicians at its Great Yarmouth base and buy equipment, including a scaffold tower.
The company said it has already installed a cylinder testing facility at the base in Norfolk.
Epic International managing director Dave Rowan (pictured) said: “Adding a wind string to the many other strands of his business was an obvious move.
“We are in Great Yarmouth and there are billions of pounds being invested into creating wind farms off our coast with a pipeline of work going on for decades.
“It makes sense that we use our facilities to work in that industry, especially with our huge knowledge and skills bank after so many years in the offshore industry.”
Score project manager Rob Bush said: “We particularly welcomed Epic International’s application because it is an oil and gas company with much expertise and experience in the offshore industry that is always looking at doing things differently.”
The £6m Score scheme is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund and is delivered by OrbisEnergy.
It offers grants of up to £50,000 to help companies across England to develop new products, processes and ideas in offshore renewables.
