Irish utility ESB added 78MW of new renewable energy capacity to its generation mix in 2018 raising the clean power total to 816MW, according to its 2018 annual results.
A further 158MW is under construction, with wind, solar and hydro accounting for 14% of the company’s generation mix. ESB aims to increase that share to 50% by 2030.
It invested €250m in low-carbon generation last year.
The company said its networks business connected a total of 336MW of new clean power projects in 2018 and now has over 4GW linked to the grid in Ireland.
Plans are in place to add a further 550MW of renewables in 2019, it added.
In Northern Ireland, 200MW of green power was added to the grid last year, bringing the total to 1.65GW.
Overall, ESB made a profit of over €60m last year, compared with a loss of almost €32m the year before.
Operating profit stood at more than €315m, up from just under €214m in 2017.
