The European Investment Bank has confirmed it has provided £110m to support Viridor’s Cardiff energy recovery facility.
The facility will treat 350,000 tonnes of waste a year from local authorities and local businesses and generate 30MW for the national grid.
It will be the eighth energy recovery facility in operation by Viridor, a Pennon Group company, with a further three facilities scheduled to be operating by March 2019.
EIB vice president Jonathan Taylor said: “The new Cardiff Energy Recovery Facility shows how waste is being transformed into vital renewable energy for Wales and reflects the strong environmental commitment of the Welsh government and local authorities already working with the project.”
Pennon Group director of finance Susan Davy said: “Cardiff is a world class plant built on time, below budget.”
