European Energy has signed a letter of intent with the Port of Hanstholm, in Denmark, to provide solar and wind capacity and a power-to-x project.
The letter of intent is part of the port’s plans to become Europe’s first CO2-neutral fishing port.
In addition to solar and wind energy plants, European Energy will establish a power-to-x plant to produce e-methanol and hydrogen at the Port of Hanstholm, which covers an area of 130,000 square metres.
European Energy said it is in the process of identifying possible local CO2 sources in and around the Port of Hanstholm to supply the e-methanol plant, which could produce green fuel for ships.
At the same time, it is also looking into the construction of a hydrogen plant, which in addition to being another resource to produce e-methanol, also releases oxygen as a residual product, which can, for example, be a resource for fish farming in aquaculture at the port.
The Port of Hanstholm and European Energy expect to begin negotiations on a final agreement in early January 2022 with a view to more energy plants during 2023.
At the beginning of the new year, the Port of Hanstholm will invite to a dialogue meeting on the project for the port’s companies and other interested parties.
