Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden has said the US could “dominate” the global wind economy.
Outlining how he plans to spend €1.73 trillion on clean energy projects if he is voted into the White House, he said he wanted to create an “economy of the future”.
Aimed at jump-starting the COVID-19 hit US economy, the funding will be spread over a four-year period, the former Vice President said.
Biden said the plans would generate “millions of high-paying unionised jobs.”
Referring to Donald Trump’s comments about wind turbines causing cancer, he said: “When I think about these windmills I see American manufacturing and America dominating the global economy. I see the ports that will come back to life.
“These investments are win, win, win for this country, creating jobs, cutting energy costs and protecting the climate.”
He also announced in a speech in Wilmington, Delaware a goal to end carbon emissions from electricity generation by 2035 as part of his “Build Back Better” campaign. “We need to get on this right away”, he said.
