Macquarie Group will be investing in 5GW of new offshore wind schemes including projects off the Orkney and Lincolnshire coasts through its offshore wind development business Corio.
The move was announced on the sidelines of the UK’s International Investment Summit as part of part of a larger £20bn package of new funding across Australian-headquartered financial services group’s UK portfolio.
It also revealed it would be backing new solar power and battery energy storage projects, including Island Green Power’s 600MW Cottam solar project on the Nottinghamshire/Lincolnshire border.
The Australian outfit will also be supporting investment in the gas transmission network and rolling out a network of fast-charging electric vehicle infrastructure through its portfolio company Roadchef.
Macquarie Group managing director and chief executive Shemara Wikramanayake (pictured) said: “The upgrade of Roadchef sites is our latest in a long line of investments in UK infrastructure and we have plans to invest more.
