New capacity helped boost Swedish energy company Vattenfall’s wind business operating profit to Skr1851m in the first half of 2019, up from Skr1638m in the same period of 2018.
However, the higher generation from wind was countered by lower power prices, particularly in the UK in the second quarter, the company said.
Three wind farms – 97MW Aberdeen Bay, 29MW Slufterdam and 373MW out of 407MW at Horns Rev 3 – have come online in the last 12 months, Vattenfall said.
Output from wind stood at 4.5 terrawatt-hours in the first six months of 2019, up from 3.8TWh in 2018.
Net sales from wind grew to Skr6418m in the period from Skr5569m last year.
Overall, the company posted a net profit of Skr7673m in the first half of the year, rising from Skr7125m in 2018.
Earnings before depreciation, amortisation and impairment losses were Skr20102m, up from Skr17826m.
Vattenfall said higher power prices in the Nordic region were the main reason for the rise, particularly in the first quarter, but were countered by the costs of storm Alfrida and weak earnings from sales.
