An “operational incident” has reduced production capacity at GE Vernova’s LM Wind Power blade plant in Cherbourg, France.
The US manufacturer said the incident resulted in damage to one of the moulds used at the site, which produced components for the Haliade-X platform.
“We experienced an operational incident at our LM Wind Power facility in Cherbourg that damaged one of the moulds used in the facility,” said a GE Vernova spokesperson.
“No one was injured and we are taking appropriate steps to safely return the facility to full operations.”
Separately and unrelated, the GE-owned LM is examining downsizing, with some reports the blade manufacturer is looking to cut 1000 jobs. The company employs around 10,000 staff.
“We are taking steps to transform LM Wind Power into a smaller, leaner and more profitable business within GE Vernova focused on meeting the needs of its internal and external customers,” said an LM Wind Power spokesperson.
“We are communicating with employees and their representatives on these actions and taking steps to support impacted employees as we move forward.”
The company said it is impacted by inflation, global supply chain challenges and lower-than-expected volumes in key markets.
