Tech giant Google has committed to invest approximately $150m into renewable energy projects in key manufacturing regions.
The company said that the investment, alongside unnamed partners, aims to catalyse roughly $1.5bn of capital into clean power.
“With these investments, we expect to help generate renewable energy that is equivalent to the amount of electricity used to manufacture our Google consumer hardware products,” the company said.
“So when you buy these products, you know you’re contributing to bringing new renewable energy to manufacturing communities.”
In September, Google signed 18 power purchase agreements totalling 1.6GW with wind and solar projects.
Together, the deals increase the company’s worldwide portfolio of renewable agreements by more than 40%, reaching 5.5GW.
