An Oklahoma utility is accelerating plans to build a 126-mile transmission line to deliver wind energy.
Oklahoma Gas & Electric expects to complete the $190m Windspeed 2 wire in mid-2018 instead of 2021, company officials said in a year-end conference call with analysts.
The new 345kV cable will run from Woodward to the Cimarron substation and parallel an existing transmission line, which was completed more than five years ago.
“When we sponsored and constructed the original Windspeed line in 2010, we saw the need for an additional line,” said OGE president and chief executive officer Sean Trauschke.
“This project is being completed, at the direction of Southwest Power Pool, to alleviate the congestion issues out in western Oklahoma,” he added.
