Renewables developer Element Power has kicked off procurement for two major contracts for the construction and maintenance of its planned 500MW Greenlink interconnector between Ireland and Wales.
Expressions of interest are being sought on turnkey deals for the design, construction and maintenance of subsea and underground HVDC cables and the build and upkeep of converter stations at either end of the line.
Project director Simon Ludlam said the procurement step is a “major milestone” for the scheme, which is a privately-financed, EU-recognised project of common interest.
“We will run a competitive tender to drive down costs and ensure maximum benefit for consumers. In parallel we are running our subsea surveys that will determine the optimal cable route across the Irish Sea to inform the procurement process,” he said.
“Greenlink is looking forward to a constructive dialogue with suppliers over the next year to select its preferred bidders and move to the award of contracts for the construction phase in 2020.”
