Enel has unveiled its strategy to eliminate emissions associated with its distribution network infrastructure.
In a meeting with industry stakeholders in Rome, Enel also detailed how it intends to collaborate more generally with the industry to promote the sharing and advancement of standards for network components that meet the criteria of efficiency, safety, quality and sustainability, in compliance with the requirements of net zero emissions.
The event saw the launch of the Open Power Grids association, which brings together network operators, manufacturers, research institutes and other stakeholders to share and develop standards and technologies for critical network components that meet net zero emission requirements.
Stakeholders attending the event included, among others, major equipment manufacturers, testing and certification companies, engineering consultancy companies, research and design institutes, as well as utilities.
Through the Open Power Grids association, Enel has begun sharing its specifications for major components and devices.
At the event, Gridspertise, the Enel company that supplies distribution systems operators (DSOs) and utilities with technologies for digitalising electricity distribution networks outlined the next step in its growth strategy aimed at encouraging the efforts of modernisation of network distribution infrastructure in the US.
Enel global infrastructure and networks head Antonio Cammisecra said: “Our Net Zero goal for networks aims to accelerate the adoption of the principles set out in the Paris Agreement across the industry in order to foster the energy transition and a significant transformation of electricity distribution infrastructures.
“This represents the first move by a global electricity grid operator to manage emissions upstream and downstream of the infrastructure in an open way, a necessary step if we want to reach the goal of zero net emissions in all the sector.
