The German Federal Network Agency BNetzA is consulting on an audited second draft of Germany’s development plan for the expansion of the electricity network by 2035.
The ongoing process is based on ambitious scenarios for increased renewable energies taking into account the expansion of energy generation through wind, hydro and solar, the agency said.
The expansion plans are necessary for secure network operation by 2035, it added.
BNetzA president Jochen Homann (pictured) said: “Our preliminary audit results show that the projects already identified in the Federal Requirements Plan Act are still necessary and urgent from the energy industry.
“In addition, we consider additional network expansion measures to be necessary.”
BNetzA said it considers a further direct current connection between Lower Saxony and Hesse to be necessary.
In addition, AC connections must be reinforced or newly established, it said.
The plan also determines the necessary offshore wind connection systems.
BNetzA has also published a draft environmental report.
The report determines, describes and evaluates the likely environmental impact of the grid expansion projects.
Interested parties have until 20 October to make comments on the plans and environmental report.
