The US Department of Energy (DOE) has issued a Presidential permit for the 1GW New England Clean Power Link, which will bring renewable energy from Eastern Canada to New England.
The permit is required for the construction, operation and maintenance of electric facilities connecting at US international borders.
The $1.2bn link, which is being developed by TDI New England, will extend for 154 miles underground and underwater.
It is expected to be in operation by 2019.
