Highland Council will this week consider SSE transmission upgrades necessary in part to accommodate wind generation in the area south of Inverness.
Members have been recommended to approve a substation near Tomatin and, in a case to be decided by Scottish ministers, offer no objection to a 275kV overhead line to the Knocknagael substation in Inverness.
The full council will consider the applications at a special meeting on 9 September following a site visit.
Works will in part replace an existing 132kV line between RWE’s operational 92MW Farr wind farm (pictured) and Inverness.
The substation will include gas-insulated switchgear in a 12-metre high building.
