NKT has repaired the 1000MW 450kV BritNed interconnector after an outage due to a fault caused by external impact.
NKT has completed the second repair operation this year on the high voltage direct current cable connection, located in the sea north of the Strait of Dover connecting the UK with the Netherlands.
The BritNed interconnector is part of the investments made by the national grid operators National Grid (UK) and TenneT (Germany/Netherlands) to ensure security and diversity of energy supply needed to facilitate more renewable energy on each grid.
BritNed Development operations director Dennis Stufkens said: “We are very satisfied with the collaboration with NKT and the creativity and craftmanship shown when redesigning an alternative solution for the cable repair route.”
