German company Pfisterer is to supply a cable system to Trier regional distribution network operator Westnetz for a 17km link in Germany to connect wind turbines in Hunsruck to the region’s urban centres.
A total of 52km of 110kV cabling will be delivered, as well as accessories, to Westnetz, a subsidiary of Innogy, as part of a turnkey deal.
The wires will connect substations in Thalfang and Osburg, Pfisterer said.
Initially, three cables will be installed in parallel conduits, with three additional empty conduits installed to allow for future expansion, the company said.
Installation will start early next year.
Pfisterer senior manager for underground cables Vukasin Basara said: “We are delighted to be continuing our partnership with Westnetz, a long-term customer, on this key project for the 110 kV distribution network, and thereby contributing to the transition to renewable energy in Rhineland-Palatinate.
“This is Pfisterer’s largest order for HV AC underground cables, and demonstrates our customer’s trust in our experience and expertise in handling complex high-voltage underground cable projects.”
