ScottishPower has secured Ofgem approval for Sphere Energy Connect to deliver and support new grid connections across Great Britain.
The company said the electricity distribution licence allows Sphere, its first independent distribution network operator, to design, own and operate new localised electricity networks.
Sphere will focus on last-mile infrastructure and will work with independent connection providers, developers and charge point operators to connect homes, businesses and new developments, it added.
Helen Fairlie, director of ScottishPower’s Sphere Energy Connect said: “Sphere is all about connecting people and powering progress.”
She added: “part of ScottishPower, Sphere seamlessly blends the agility and innovation of a start up with the strength and reputation of a trusted business.”
“Our decades of experience and understanding of the complexities of the energy landscape mean we are perfectly positioned to support our customers, embrace smarter ways of working and collaborate effectively to deliver the best possible projects,” stated Fairlie.
She said: “We’re passionate about helping the UK achieve its climate ambitions and excited for Sphere Energy Connect to play its part in driving a cleaner and greener future.”
