Siemens has signed a cooperation agreement with Cuban utility Union Electrica to modernize the country’s energy infrastructure and boost renewables.
The German company and the state-owned utility will agree on the development of projects and services within the power generation, transmission and distribution, renewable energy and automation sectors.
The deal also includes the opportunity for Siemens to supply power generating technology to existing and future projects in Cuba, it said.
During the past months, the partners have already been evaluating Cuba’s current energy system and issuing recommendations to develop and optimize its power infrastructure.
“With this important agreement we consolidate our commitment and partnership with Cuba,” Siemens power and gas division chief executive Willi Meixner said.
“We will assist and support Cuba and their people on the development of a sustainable and modern electricity system to ensure the country’s economic and social development.”
