TenneT will today inaugurate a new high-voltage substation on Middenweg in Eemshaven that has been built entirely for wind and solar energy.
The 110kV substation is part of a grid reinforcement development for the growing supply of sustainably generated energy in Eemshaven, the company said.
In addition, TenneT has laid a nine-kilometre underground cable connection from the new substation to the existing Eemshaven Robbenplaat HV substation.
TenneT said together with Enexis Netbeheer it is fully engaged in increasing the transmission capacity in the Northern Netherlands.
“This is necessary because of the growing supply of sustainably generated energy,” it said.
TenneT is also building a 380kV connection between the Eemshaven substation (Oudeschip) and the Vierverlaten HV substation near Groningen, and is expanding the Vierverlaten HV substation.
This new ‘power highway’ replaces the existing 220kV connection, the company added.
Pending commissioning in 2023, TenneT will commission a temporary 380kV HV substation in Eemshaven in October 2020.
