TenneT has received approval from the regional government of Schleswig-Holstein for the fourth phase of the 380kV west coast line from Husum to Klixbull in Germany.
The transmission system operator said the section should be in operation by the third quarter of 2022.
TenneT managing director Tim Meyerjurgens said: “With the fourth planning approval decision, we are now turning onto the home stretch when the west coast line is being built.”
TenneT will install 104 masts between the Husum substation and the newly built Klixbull substation to connect the 110kV line over a 38km length. The masts of the previous 110kV line will then be dismantled.
The 14km section one from Brunsbuttel to Suderdonn has been in operation since December 2016, with the second 23km section from Suderdonn to Heide working since September 2019.
Construction of section three from Heide to Husum is underway and planned for commissioning in the third quarter of 2021.
A planning application for the fifth 18km section from Klixbull to Denmark will be submitted this year.
It is expected online in 2023. Overall, the west coast line will have a length of 140km.
Schleswig-Holstein Minister of Energy Transition Jan Albrecht said: “We in Schleswig-Holstein show that with early civil dialogue, solid planning of large infrastructure measures is possible.
“With the expansion of the network, we are creating the basis for the successful energy transition.
“Schleswig-Holstein is a pioneer country and we are prepared for the growth of renewable energies with strong electricity grids.”
