Thailand’s Electricity Generating Authority (EGAT) has awarded Andritz a contract to modernise the pumped storage units at the 720MW Srinagarind hydropower plant in Kanchanaburi province.
The order, valued in the mid double-digit million-euro range, covers the replacement of two 180MW pump-turbine units, motor generators, and related electromechanical equipment.
Srinagarind, located on the Kwai Yai River, is one of Thailand’s largest hydropower plants, supplying base-load power, peak-load coverage and grid balancing. Andritz previously modernised the site’s three Francis turbine units.
The company will use its advanced manufacturing facilities in India and its global engineering network to deliver the project.
“This modernisation will ensure efficient and reliable operation of the pumped storage units for many years to come, securing Srinagarind’s role as a cornerstone of Thailand’s power system,” Andritz said.
EGAT operates more than 50 power plants across Thailand with a combined capacity of over 16GW and is active in energy projects abroad.
Andritz has been present in Thailand for over five decades and has contributed to nearly half of the country’s hydropower capacity through new installations and modernisation projects. The latest contract strengthens its long-term partnership with EGAT and supports Thailand’s renewable energy goals.
