Innogy Renewables UK has received planning approval from The Highland Council for the 4MW Glasa hydro scheme at Easter Ross in Scotland.
Innogy development manager Scotland Andrew Logie said: “We are delighted with (the) decision to grant consent for Innogy’s plans for a storage hydro scheme on the Kildermorie Estate.
“It reflects the support both locally and with the statutory consultees, for a project which will provide long-term green power generation for generations.
“Whilst scaled down from original plans consented plans in 2010, the proposals for a 4MW scheme with flexible reservoir storage will make a contribution to climate change targets, providing enough electricity to power the equivalent of over 3000 homes, at times when demand is high.”
Innogy now has three consented hydro projects in Scotland. The other two are the 2MW Glen Noe facility in Argyll & Bute and 2MW Allt na Moine in Wester Ross.
Both projects are both currently in pre-construction planning, Innogy said.
