Siemens is supplying two gas-insulated HV switchgear for the 3.6GW Rogun hydro plant in Tajikistan.
The switchgear should be fully installed and ready for operation by 2018 and will protect the power generation and transmission systems, Siemens said.
The 8DQ1 unit covers a voltage range of up to 550kV and has 21 circuit breakers, while the 8DN9 covers up to 220kV and has four circuit breakers.
The switchgear is also fitted with online monitoring devices to enable automatic remote diagnosis and self-monitoring.
The hydro plant is part of the Rogun dam project and will generate 13.3bn kWh of electricity a year.
