Labour pledges to collaborate for green drive

The Labour Party has pledged to work “hand in glove” with the private sector to create the conditions for a successful clean energy future.

Rachel Reeves, Labour’s Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer (pictured), and Ed Miliband, Shadow Energy Secretary, made the remarks at a Green Prosperity Plan summit of senior renewable energy leaders at Octopus Energy’s office in London.

Reeves and Miliband hosted Green Prosperity Plan summit to help unlock private sector investment and create good jobs.

According to the Labour Party, the meeting was attended by representatives of businesses that the Party aims to work together with to unlock growth, boost green investment and create jobs in Britain’s industrial heartlands.

During the meeting Reeves and Miliband set out Labour’s plan to bring growth back to the British economy through Labour’s National Wealth Fund and Great British Energy.

The Green Prosperity Plan is a central part of Labour’s election offer with the plan promising to deliver the Party’s clean power by 2030 mission, contribute to its growth mission, permanently taking hundreds of pounds off of energy bills, creating half a million good jobs, and making Britain energy independent, it added.

Rachel Reeves said: “Labour’s Green Prosperity Plan is ambitious for Britain’s future.

“There is a global race taking place in the jobs and industries of the future, and only by working hand in glove with the private sector will Labour be able to lead it.”

Miliband said: “Our Green Prosperity Plan is a world-leading agenda that will cut bills and create good jobs all across Britain’s industrial heartlands.

“It’s a big ambition, but it’s exactly what our country needs and with the government and industry working side by side we can achieve it.”
