The Low Carbon Contracts Company (LCCC) has signed 130 deals under the Contracts for Difference (CfD) AR6, the highest number of agreements ever signed in a single round.
Once operational, AR6 projects will see 9.58GW of renewables generation coming online, bringing the total CfD capacity to 34.74GW.
AR6 secured a broad range of technologies from well-established wind and solar to emerging, innovative schemes like tidal and floating offshore wind, further diversifying GB’s renewable energy portfolio and facilitating a greener future.
LCCC chief executive Neil McDermott (pictured, right) said: “With the contracts for AR6 now signed, we are proud to announce a significant expansion in our renewable energy portfolio.
“This groundbreaking round increases our capacity by 9.58GW to a total of 34.74GW and features a broad range of technologies from well-established wind and solar to nascent technologies like tidal and floating wind.
“The success of AR6 not only advances our commitment to decarbonisation but also accelerates our journey towards a net zero future.
“We are eager to partner with our new and existing generators to ensure timely delivery.”
Energy Minister Michael Shanks said: “We acted decisively to increase the budget for Allocation Round 6, delivering the most successful renewables auction to date.
“Securing more clean energy projects is how we protect billpayers from volatile fossil fuel markets, strengthen energy security and deliver our mission to make Britain a clean energy superpower by 2030.
“The signing of these contracts marks another key milestone on our journey, and we look forward to continue working with industry to speed up the rollout of clean, cheap and secure power across the country.”
LCCC continues to play a crucial role in facilitating private investment in renewable generation, helping to shape a resilient and sustainable energy system for future generations.
The CfD projects secured though AR6 will play a key part in driving innovation in the renewable energy sector.
As part of AR6, ScottishPower has been awarded contracts for two projects, including its East Anglia 2 offshore windfarm that will see 963MW of clean energy come online in 2028/29.
ScottishPower’s managing director for offshore development and operations Ross Ovens (pictured, left) said: “We’ve been moving at pace since our success in the auction to confirm the supply chain for our £4bn East Anglia 2 wind farm, which will produce enough renewable electricity to power the equivalent of almost one million homes.
“We look forward to bringing this project to life and reaping all the benefits that offshore wind can, and will, deliver.”
